Millicent Loder
Person

Millicent (Blake) Loder (1915-) was educated in the schools of the Grenfell Mission in Labrador and St. Anthony. The mission later arranged for her to complete her education and nurse's training in the United States, after which she returned to nurse at St. Anthony and Mary's Harbour. In 1949 she married Sidney Loder and moved to Hopedale, where she was a volunteer midwife and health care worker for nine years before moving to St.Johns after. After her Husbands death in 1968, Millicent Loder returned to Labrador to nurse at several nursing stations and most fequently at North West River, where she was also responsible for setting up an Infants home, she retired in 1980 Millicent Loder received an honarary degree from MUN in recognition of her service to the people of Labrador. She was awarded the Order of Canada in 1982 and published her autobiography in 1989. Millicent Loder is also the Author of "Daughter of Labrador"

Patrick T. McGrath

Patrick McGrath (1868-1929) was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland. He was the son of William and Mary (Birmingham) McGrath. He received his early education at the Christian Brothers School in St. Johns , and at age 14 left and went to work in a Drug Store. In 1893 he became acting editor of the Evening Herald and in 1894 was promoted to the editorship , a position he held until 1907, when he left to become founder of The Chronicle were consolidated. He also wrote for many international magazines and periodicals. He held numerous positions on Government Delagations, committees, and commissions. McGrth died on June 14, 1929

Nigel Markham

Nigel Markham was born in England and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He came to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, in 1975 to work with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a cameraman, and during that time, also volunteered as photographic editor for THEM DAYS Magazine. His directorial credits include The Last Days of Okak, which was an account of the devastating effects of the 1918 influenza epidemic on the Labrador Inuit, which won the Best Documentary award at the 1986 Atlantic Film Festival.
