Scope and content
Collection consists of a letter from Kathleen Snow, Joseph’s great Granddaughter to Them Days which introduces the Chard Family; a family tree for Chards of Coley’s Point; 8 letters with typed copies mainly about fishing and trapping from Joseph Chad or his children to his mother, Fanny Russell from 1917 to 1920s; one short notice about a double drowning fatality at Cape Ailik in which Isaac Chard, Joseph’s son died; 7 photographs of Chard Family.

General note
Joseph Chard was born in 1869, and moved to Ailik, Labrador in 1910. He started a fishing business and fur trade in Ailik with his wife Ethel Sparkes, his children and other Chard family members. His parents, Samuel Chard and Fanny Russell, went to Labrador in 1800s before they moved back to Coley’s Point. Emma, his daughter moved to Boston. Isaac, his son drowned off Cape Ailik at age 16, 1926. Gladys, his daughter married James Burdett and lived in Cartwright. Samul, his son moved back to Coley’s point with his children Bernard and Kathleen. Joseph died in 1930s and was buried in Makkovik.
