The Stephen Rupert Morris fonds consists of ledgers, 1898 - 1904; daily credit pink sales sheets, 1904 - 1911; transfer ledger sheets, 1904 - 1948; journals, 1904 - 1923; cash books, 1906 - 1923; and daily receipts, 1911 - 1929 for the Morris family companies of Joseph Morris; Joseph Morris and Sons; Fred J. Morris; and Morris and Company; cash books 1948 - 1970, expenditure book, 1948 -1970 and a journal, 1948 - 1970 for the Trinity Cabins; a photocopy of the Morris Family and Morris Business History; a collection of Christmas cards and 15 scrapbooks which contain photocopies of clippings, extracts, photographs, programs and other information relating to Trinity and the Trinity area.

The fonds consists of the papers of William Gilbert Gosling and research notes and drafts of his book Humphrey Gilbert, correspondence, one photograph album, one postcard album and several loose photographs that belonged to Armine Nutting Gosling and Ambrose Gosling, typed speeches and talk about Bermuda read by A.G. Gosling over the radio (1957); Ambrose Gosling's photograph album (including photographs of central Balkans, WWI, 1914-17), photographs of Salonika and photographs documenting the aftermath of major fire; Ambrose Gosling's postcard album (featuring Salonika and other sites), cast photo of "The New Boy", featuring Armine Nutting Gosling; photograph Newfoundland Lawn Tennis Club.

Fonds consists of microfilmed copies of ships' papers, including fishing and shipping papers, 1761-1790. They record trading activities with local merchants in Virginia and Maryland; unofficial cargo manifests; journal of a voyage on the sloop Phoenix; and work performed aboard the sloop Robinwood. Business and family papers contain correspondence, legal records, and financial papers relating to shipping and business affairs and include merchant correspondence, bonds and deeds, shipping accounts, and correspondence with family members.

Fonds is arranged in three series: Ships' papers (1761-1790); Shipping account books (1763-1788); Business and family papers (1758-1817).

The fonds consists of a diary and photo album compiled by Thomas Roberts on his trip to Newfoundland in 1903, and a letter received from a cousin in Montreal while he was in Brigus. There is also a prayer book which belonged to a family member, and various Newfoundland, Canadian and British one cent or one penny coins dating from 1865 to 1916. The material has been arranged in three series, with non-original material concerning Mr. Roberts, together with correspondence between Mrs. Newton and Bobbie Robertson, Secretary of the Newfoundland Historical Society, being placed in an appendix. Fonds consists of records collected by Matthews for his dissertation and during his tenure as chair of the Maritime History Group, as well as his prior research. The fonds includes material for his research into the study of the Newfoundland/West of England fisheries, the subject of his doctoral thesis, as well as extensive data on the individuals and businesses involved in the early settlement and trade of Newfoundland, up to 1850.

The early modern documents are a collection of copies of over 1200 documents held at repositories in Britain relating to political development and trade in Newfoundland in the 17th and 18th centuries. The 19th and 20th century Newfoundland documents are copies of individual documents and collections of documents relating to the Newfoundland fishery and its government and politics, drawn mostly from records of the Colonial Office, Newfoundland governors papers and papers of Newfoundland prime ministers. The fonds also includes Matthew's research notes and personal papers.

The collection contains 204 copies of original photographs gathered by the Haystack Reunion Committee for inclusion in its commemorative booklet, Haystack Reflections, published in 1997. The images include schools, churches, business premises, work and social activities, special events, Haystack residents, and the changing landscape of the community in the first half of the 20th century. All have been identified and described on MHA photographic database.
