Fonds consist of records relating to the functional bodies of the Charge which include various boards, committees, organizations and groups. Included are vital statistics, minutes, financial records, reports, and publications.

The records are arranged in the following series: 1.0 Baptism, marriage and burial registers, (1849-1961); 2.0 Membership Records [19-]; 3.0 Board and Committee Records (1852-1941); 4.0 Women's Groups Records (1953-1973); 5.0 Sunday School/ Sabbath School Records (1931-1942); 6.0 Correspondence/ Subject Files (1889; 7.0 Church histories [19-]; 8.0 Scrapbooks, 1963-1988; and 9.0 Annual Reports, 1958-1996.

Women's Groups records

Series consists of material created by the United Church Women (UCW) and Women's Association and Women's Missionary Society, the two groups that were formed into the UCW. Included are: Women's Association, Minutes, 1953-1961, Membership Lists Account Books, 1953-1961; Women's Missionary Society, Minutes, Membership Lists, 1965-1960, Annual Report, 1961; UCW minutes, 1969-1973, Unit A, Minutes, 1962-63.

Annual reports

Series consists of annual reports of the Grand Bank Pastoral charge. Included are reports of various boards, committees, and organizations listing memberships, budgets and financial statements. Some reports also lists ministers who have served from the formation of the Charge to the present date, lists of subscribers, and vital statistics for that year. Reports are included for the years 1957, 1958, 1994-1997.

Baptism, Marriage and Burial records

Series consists of 12 parish registers including baptisms: transcribed 1916 (1817-1849), 1890-1912, 1912-1957, marriages, transcribed 1916 (1817-1849), 1850-1890, 1890-1907, 1907-1926, 1926-1940, 1942-1961; burials, transcribed 1914 (1817-1953), 1853-1891, 1891-1917.

Earliest registers of births, burials and marriages are transcriptions copied in 1916 from original records by Rev. Charles Lench. An affidavit (written in the registers) swears as to the documents being a true copy. The location of the originals is unknown.

Membership records

Series consist of a paper written by A.F. Buffett containing a selection of parish vital statistics of the Methodist congregation in Grand Bank. Also included are lists of ministers associated with Grand Bank 1891-1901, and Fortune 1819-1901.

Church histories

Series consists of published material and photocopies of written work on the history of the Grand Bank Pastoral Charge. Included are: An Account of the Rise and Progress of Methodism on Grand Band and Fortune Circuits, 1816-1916" , by Rev. Charles Lench, Banners and Company, Printers, 1916.; also included are photocopies of historical notes on the history of Churches in Grand Bank and Fortune.

Board and committee records

Series consist of records of the administrative bodies of the pastoral charge as well as other boards and committees. Included: Official Board minutes, 1922-1850, accounts, givings, 1852-1891; Trustee Board records, 1891-1903, List of trustees, 1871-1901; congregational minutes, list of members, Church statistics, accounts, givings, 1860-1921; Board of Education (Protestant for the Grand Bank District), minutes, 1852-1866, 1869-1891,1938-1941, attendance (School Registers), 1915, 1916, account book, 1869-1891; Laymen's Missionary Fund, minutes, 1910; list of Methodist families, 1922-1939; subscription list, 1911-1924; School Building Committee, minutes, and accounts, 1930-1941.


Series consists of newspaper clippings and the publications. Included are newspaper clippings of the opening of the Church in Grand Bank, 1965, and The United Messenger, 1963, 1987-1988.
