Agnes Pratt Home fonds

Fonds consists of administrative records of the Senior Citizens Home, including property (legal and financial) ([195-]-1987), Watkins Estate trust fund account (1979-1982), annual reports (1975-1995), financial statements (1962-1994), reports and correspondence to various agencies (primarily the United Church of Canada ) (1958-1992), minutes and reports of the board (1972-1993). In addition there is a file concerning several expansions of the home (1970-1986). Several issues of the home's newsletter are included (1979, 1993). It also includes blueprints, architect's assessments, brochures and photographs. Also included are several ancillary files containing miscellaneous information as it relates to housing the elderly.

Murray & Company (St. Anthony) Limited, 1934-1969, a subsidiary company which was established to expand Murray's influence in the fishery on the Northern Peninsula and Labrador. It includes correspondence with suppliers 1951-64, journals 1939-57, ledgers 1934-54, profit and loss statements 1935-55, cash books 1936-55, stock books 1934-59, salt reports 1935-59, operating accounts 1935-49, insurance policies 1952-61, Workmen's Compensation Board records 1951-59, employee income tax returns 1949-52, payroll ledger 1949-58, trawler accounts with Furness Withy and Harvey & Company Limited 1957-59, CN bills of lading 1957-60, and diary extracts, 1937.

This fonds contains the operational records of the business of A.H. Murray and Company Limited, 1902-1970. It includes correspondence with customers and suppliers from 1904-70; extensive financial records for 1902-66, including account books, journals, ledgers, bank books, cash books, Dunn's Bulletins, etc., insurance policies and correspondence for vessels cargo and property; labour records, payroll ledgers, files covering a dispute between the Newfoundland Employers Association and the Longshoremen's Protective Union, 1964-65, and a list of Newfoundland trade unions, 1958-59; advertising accounts, maps and plans; schooner accounts for fishing voyages, vessel mortgages and bills of sale; ship manifests and sharemen's agreements; records relating to the HMS Briton; catalogues and price lists.

The fonds also documents A. H. Murray's involvement as a director in the Salt Importers Association,1940-66, Newfoundland Agency Ltd., Colonial Cordage Company, 1959-63, Blu-Flame Gas Co. Ltd., 1962-63, Newfoundland Coal Company, 1946-63, Baccalieu Shipping Co., 1917-22, Newfoundland Shipping Co., 1911-14, Annzac Steamship Company Limited, 1916-25, Salmonier Shipping Co. Ltd., 1947-65, and Sound Island Stores Ltd., 1925-32.

The fonds consists of four ledgers for 1840, 1894, 1900 and 1909. They contain accounts of the fish business originally established by Henry Goodridge (b.1762) at Renews. The 1840 ledger gives accounts of the fishery, smithery, cooperage, shipwright and schooner operation, as well as personal accounts. The ledgers for 1894, 1900 and 1909 are probably from the St. John's office, but they also include business accounts relating to the Southern Shore.

Douglas (1981), and an exerpt from the GAZETTE regarding recovering bodies from the steamer Sand Beach (1932).

Subjects include the Alberto Wareham Limited premises and vessels in Spencer's Cove, Placentia Bay; vessels owned by Alberto Wareham Limited in Harbour Buffett, Placentia Bay; the vessels Alberto Wareham and Herbert L. Rawding; a house being towed across Placentia Bay; and Elsie Wareham, Alberto's Wareham's sister.

Some photographers, including John Butt and Bill Davies, are identified. Other photographers are unknown.
