The records of Harvey & Company Limited, St. John's, covers at least two distinct periods in the firm's evolution and have been acquired at different times and from different sources. Most of the original material covers the post-confederation period, and consists of correspondence (1955-1956) and some loose leaf ledgers and journals. There are transcripts of two letter books, dated 1902-1910, by W. G. Gosling, (1863-1930), a shareholder and long time manager for Harvey's. The letterbooks give valuable insight into both the business and other interests in Gosling's life. There is also a photocopy of a diary, dated 1885. Other records relate to the Bay Bulls Development Syndicate, a subsidiary of Harvey's which was established in 1925.

Fonds consists of a small part of the records relating to the company's Newfoundland cables, mainly engineers' and other reports, both originals and photocopies.

Fonds is arranged in three series: Engineers' reports, 1874-1926; General reports, 1910-1930; and Diaries and logbooks, 1866-1926.

The fonds consists of early and more recent records of the parish. The early records include a parish list for 1878, a list of persons confirmed in the parish, from 1882-1888; annual reports of the St. Agatha's Branch of the Girls' Friendly Society to 1907; offerings from the Trinity Mission, 1904-1912 and 1923-1926, subscribers list 1924. For the mid-20th century records include minute books of the parish council, 1946-1971, parish list, 1943-1947; accounts and rector's stipend, 1945-1962; members of the parish council 1947; correspondence from the Central Diocese for the period 1971-1981, when the parish was combined with that of Trinity East-Port Rexton. The fonds also includes photocopies of the registers of births, marriages and burials for the parish, 1757-1867.

Fonds consists of records related to Rev. Andrew W. Cleary, including baptismal certificate and canonical documents of ordination and appointment. Fonds also includes newspaper clippings and printed material related to his life.

Fonds consists of mainly coloured photographs taken by the Staceys during the various scouting events they attended. The geographic area and event represented by the photographs is different to each series. Collection consists of 6 photographs copied from photographs collected by Edgar Baird relating to Glenwood, Gambo and Bay D'Espoir, Newfoundland.

Collection includes 2 images of the SS Kyle unloading in the ice at Bay D'Espoir, with loggers using teams (mostly oxen), dated Mar. 1939; a photograph of men taking supplies by horse and sled to a logging camp (193-); and a photograph of Gleneagles ( site of a flying boat base), Glenwood.

The collection also includes a photograph of Mi'kmaq woman, Maggie John, Glenwood, posing with baskets in front of her log cabin, and a portrait of Jesse Abbott, logger and riverman of Gambo. Abbott died when releasing a log jam and was swept over the falls.

The letters range over the period from 1864 to 1903, though there is nothing between 1874 and 1898. The correspondents include Edward Feild, Bishop of Newfoundland; Shears' future wife, Emma Laura Harvey; his brother Fred; and his good friend Robert Holland Taylor, Anglican incumbent of Brigus parish from the early 1860's to 1886, and of Baltimore, NJ, from at least 1898 to 1903. The five photographs, all albumen prints in carte-de-visite form, were in one envelope, but only one is identified and dated, July 14, 1865. The material has been arranged in two series, with an appendix: Series 1.00, Textual materials; Series 2.00, Photographs; Appendix 1, Correspondence and other material relating to the collection.

Item consists of a microfilm reproduction of an account book (109 p.) that contains numerous entries, including accounts with Sir Edmund Andros, Captain Cyprian Southack, and Major John Walley.

The material consists of textual records of the functions and activities of the Association, including a collection of papers, articles, speeches, periodicals, brochures and reports relating to the various topics dealt with by the Association in its conferences and seminars, or forums attended by its executive members. A small number of photographs of senior citizen housing in Prince Edward Island is in the file relating to housing [9.02]. The alphabetical list of files as processed in 1984 is preserved in Appendix 1, but some material in the cabinet had not been included in that process. The material has been rearranged according to form and function, with weeding of duplicates. Some published material has been retained within the fonds as it relates directly to themes or topics of conferences or projects. Other material has been listed in appendices, and periodical material has been removed to the library of the Newfoundland Historical Society.

The bulk of the records come from the activities of Dr. Stella Burry, president 1975-79 and active executive member, Joyce Nevitt, president 1980-1, 1984-85, active executive member, chair of the education committee, and newsletter editor, and from Norman Pinhorn, treasurer 1980-82. The working file of Joyce Nevitt as president, and a binder compiled by two successive secretaries, Rev. J.F. Ayris and Ada Spencer, 1977-78, have been retained as samples of how the association operated. Fonds consists of folkloric material collected as a result of field trips to various communities, outports and bays in Newfoundland; predominantly Notre Dame Bay, White Bay, the Baie Verte Peninsula and Placentia Bay. The material in the fonds was collected by Widdowson (1963-99) and several collaborators: Herbert Halpert (1964, 1974-75), Clyde Williams (1964), Pierce Power (1964), Walter Lyver (1964), Fred Earle (1964-67), John Hewson (1964), Harold Paddock (1966), Paul Smith (1969), Violetta M. Halpert (1974-75), Lawrence G. Small (1974-75), William J. Kirwin (1979), and Cecil J. Reynolds (1984?). Widdowson also acted as co-depositor with Gwen Seary (1985).

The material in the fonds was collected on 246 audio reels, 2 audio cassettes and 14 folklore survey cards. As well the fonds contains fieldwork notes, informants' biographical sheets, song sheets, partial and/or full audio transcriptions and correspondence.

The majority of the material in the fonds deals with the folklore genres of oral history, song, tale, dance, beliefs, child lore, custom, food ways, language, proverbs, riddles, material culture, and personal experience narratives. Much of the material collected by Widdowson and his co-collectors was used in the creation of The Dictionary of Newfoundland English and Folktales of Newfoundland.

The fonds also consists of miscellaneous items such as a toast by Dr. E.R. Seary (1973); a methodical discussion of MUNFLA (1975), lectures (1975), a transcript of an oral history presentation (1974); a speech on MUN's future (1975); a recording of a BBC radio broadcast [1979?]; and the personal papers, writings and collections of Mr. Cecil Reynolds (1976-86). As well, the fonds contains a small amount of published documents and photocopied material that were deposited due to a connection with the collector or informant and/or its folkloric content.
