Collection consists of microfilmed copies of three volumes of account books containing the Knight dealings with the hundreds of fishermen they hired, the export merchants to whom they sold their cod, and the dozens of maritime artisans and labourers who maintained their fleet of schooners. The account books cover the years 1767-81 and 1788-1833.

Frequent subjects are conditions in foreign fish markets and the state of the fishery in New England.
Swett, Joseph Jr.Collection consists of microfilmed copies of three account books, 1745-1754, 1753-1764, and 1765-1777, showing the history of fishing vessels and the relationships between merchant and individual fishermen over an extended period.
Ward, MilesCollection consists of microfilm of account books for Davis's three offshore schooners and the flakeyard. The books also record the towns in which his customers and hands lived. There are notations for every voyage and the quantity of cod caught by each fishermen.
Davis, ThomasCollection consists of microfilmed account books of William Pickering that document the voyages of his two fishing sloops, Speedwell and Content, as well as his dealings with mariners, fishermen, and the tradesmen of Salem's waterfront. The collection also includes a description of the peddling activities of the brigantine Hope in fishing settlements from Ferryland to Bonavista, Newfoundland.
Pickering, WilliamFonds consists of microfilmed copies of ships' papers, including fishing and shipping papers, 1761-1790. They record trading activities with local merchants in Virginia and Maryland; unofficial cargo manifests; journal of a voyage on the sloop Phoenix; and work performed aboard the sloop Robinwood. Business and family papers contain correspondence, legal records, and financial papers relating to shipping and business affairs and include merchant correspondence, bonds and deeds, shipping accounts, and correspondence with family members.

Burnham, JoshuaFonds consists of records collected by Matthews for his dissertation and during his tenure as chair of the Maritime History Group, as well as his prior research. The fonds includes material for his research into the study of the Newfoundland/West of England fisheries, the subject of his doctoral thesis, as well as extensive data on the individuals and businesses involved in the early settlement and trade of Newfoundland, up to 1850.
The early modern documents are a collection of copies of over 1200 documents held at repositories in Britain relating to political development and trade in Newfoundland in the 17th and 18th centuries. The 19th and 20th century Newfoundland documents are copies of individual documents and collections of documents relating to the Newfoundland fishery and its government and politics, drawn mostly from records of the Colonial Office, Newfoundland governors papers and papers of Newfoundland prime ministers. The fonds also includes Matthew's research notes and personal papers.

The books list each customer by name and give an account of work carried out and a detailed breakdown of costs. The order books are arranged in chronological order.

The fonds consists of financial records, ledgers, journals, order books and shop books etc., correspondence, orders and shipping information, including bills of lading, customs entry forms and marine insurances. There is a large collection of catalogues of products which were sold at the store: china and glassware of all qualities, silverware, lamps and hardware, cutlery and flatware. S.O. Steele & Sons Ltd.Collection consists of extracts from the business papers of the firm of C. W. Kellock and its predecessors, selected by Dr. Keith Matthews, Memorial University of Newfoundland. The selected records are copies of memoranda of agreements (sales contracts) for the Liverpool office, 1850-1945. The records contain data on virtually every vessel which passed through the hands of the company, including each vessel's name and tonnage, the purchaser and seller, the selling price, and the conditions of sale.
