Fonds consists of a photocopied ledger giving account of provisions shipped from Waterford (hogs, cattle, grain, clothing, salt, ships' supplies), valued at 43,500 pounds sterling to 47 customers in St. John's. The main customer was Thomas Meagher, an Irish merchant in St. John's. Fonds also describes Fogarty's imports from Newfoundland, including fish oil, blubber, timber, and fur.

Fonds consists of a photocopy of a ledger (1853-1858) which contains accounts of individuals who dealt with Thomas Oates & Son. The ledger also includes a list of the crew of the brigantine Belle for the year 1853, under Thomas Oates Sr., master; sealing agreements (1856, 1858); and some copies of legal documents and correspondence (1852).

Fonds consists of photocopied papers selected from the original records held at the New Brunswick Museum, Saint John. The holdings copied for MHA represent approximately ten percent of the Hilyard fonds held by the New Brunswick Museum.

The fonds consists of thirty-three items containing accounts, leases, bills of sale, contracts to build vessels, correspondence, ships' papers and a co-partnership agreement.

The fonds includes accounts (1855-63); leases for shipyard (1857-64); bills of sale for vessels (1856-64), Moss Rose; contracts to build vessels (1855-65); correspondence (1862-80); insurance policy for the Lottie Stewart (1876); ships' papers (1864-81), including the Meeranza at Liverpool, a charter party for the Teresa; and a co-partnership agreement (1869).

Subjects include the Pinsent property at Salmonier, Newfoundland; fishing on the Little River, Codroy; opening of the House of Assembly (1896); view of St. John's; and scenes of the Newfoundland railway.

Collection consists of research data for Patricia Thornton's doctoral thesis, entitled "Dynamic Equilibrium: Settlement, Population and Ecology in the Strait of Belle Isle, Newfoundland, 1840-1940", (University of Aberdeen, 1979).

Collection includes 13 boxes of index cards, recording information on residents of 48 communities on each shore of the Strait of Belle Isle from 1848 until 1949. Boxes 1 and 3-11 contains the cards recording birth, marriage and deaths, arranged in alphabetical order. Boxes 2 and 13 contain marriage recall cards, which allow linkage between family groups, and additional data sheets.

Series consists of minutes of the administration of the Sunday School for [1886]-1922 including financial statements; Board of Directors minutes 1962-1963, and Bible Class (teenage children) minutes 1964-1965 including annual reports and correspondence. Also a part of this series are attendance and membership records including students and teachers for 1914-1921, Beginner's Department 1924-1930, 1961-1962, Junior Church 1954-1933, Attendance roll [196-?] and a list of students and teachers [196-].

Other records comprising this series are financial records: account book 1961-1967; donation envelopes 1961-1963; and a single invoice for 1960; reports 1963-1964; a significant piece of correspondence dated 1924 which is a letter from missionary in China with translation and supporting documentation, as well as several pieces of correspondence dated 1962-1963. A miscellaneous group of records consists of service bulletins [191-]-[192-], cradle roll certificates [195-]-[196-], collection envelopes [191-]-[192-?], Sunday School Library Book Catalogue [19-], Sunday School curriculum material 1933-1934, 1938, [195-?], [198-], invitation to attend Sunday School [19-], invitation and program for nursery party 1965, and the Sunday School Institute round table discussion program [19-].
