Fonds consists of the business records for the branch of J.W. Hodge operating at Joe Batt's Arm. The records include 25 ledgers for 1896-1926 and 28 journals for 1900-1927, covering operations by J.W. Hodge from 1898 to 1922 and by his successor, Levi Perry, from 1922 to the late 1920s. Fonds is organized by form of material and arranged chronologically. Partnership changes are noted in the finding aid.

Fonds consists of company accounts for the New England firm of Thomas Ruck & Company relating to the fish trade in Newfoundland, 1713-1722. Fonds is composed of five ledgers, a journal and a day book containing accounts for the seasonal trade (usually May-Sept) conducted by Ruck in Bay Bulls, Petty Harbour, Quidi Vidi, Torbay, St. John's, Ferryland, Witless Bay, Cape Broyle, Brigus Bay South and Conception Bay, Newfoundland.

Fonds consists of Laws' working files, the majority of which came from Laws' office as manager of NAFEL. Other material relates to the various government agencies and committees with which he was associated. The bulk of the material covers the years from 1936 to 1981, when Laws was a central figure in Newfoundland's fishing industry.

Slade fonds

The fonds consists of original and photocopied records of this important firm's business at Trinity from 1809-1852. The most complete series are a set of daily diaries, 1809-1852 written by William Kelson, agent for Robert Slade at Trinity. The diaries provide an account of the business as well as providing detail on the social life of the town. The fonds also includes account books, ledgers and fish collection books, which give insight into the various aspects of Slade's mercantile operation, and the independent fishermen with whom he did business. Letterbooks and correspondence, 1809-1855 provide details of the management of the business.

The fonds is arranged in three series. Series 1: Financial records, 1807-1861; Series 2: Diaries, 1809-1852; Series 3: Correspondence, 1809-1855.

Fonds is arranged in three series, reflecting the political periods covered by the fonds: Responsible government, pre-1934; Commission of government, 1934-49; Post-confederation government, 1949-66.

Fonds consists of Lady McKie's own photographic work, as well as post cards, clippings and other illustrations relating to fisheries and shipbuilding in Norway, Atlantic Canada, France, Portugal and elsewhere. It also includes published booklets and articles on similar topics, her own notes on Newfoundland material and a wooden tally stick of 1869 from Charles Robin's company in Quebec. Photographs are arranged in 41 series according to subject.
