George Snelgrove collection

Collection consists of photographs of various vessels in St. John's, harbour and elsewhere. Photographs include the following: the management and staff of Murray Agencies [1950s]; 2 photographs of the Department of Transport vessel Sea Beacon; the deck of the tug Glenmore, Furness Withy; the Signa tied up at Murray's wharf; 11 photographs of the voyage of the Hudson Bay Company vessel Fort James; the sinking of the Signa (1959); the Gazella; the Anglo Newfoundland Development (AND) paper company shed; the SS Stephano; and 6 photographs of the two-masted schooner James Burton Cook.

The collections also includes 21 charts of Newfoundland and the North Atlantic, including a 1907 map of Howley's geological survey of Newfoundand (top half only), as well as articles on the voyage of the Fort James and clippings concerning the Norma and Gladys from the periodical Sea Classics.

George W. Hunter fonds

Fonds consists of photocopies of the incoming correspondence of the firm of George W. Hunter from many shipowners for whom he acted as agent, and from whom he chartered vessels. Much of his business was done with shipowners from Atlantic Canada. Weekly reports of freight markets from Saint John and Yarmouth are included. The correspondence has been arranged geographically and listed by individual correspondent.

Gert Crosbie fonds

Fonds consists of family history material collected and used by Gert Crosbie while working on the history of her husband's family, the Manuel family of Exploits and Burnt Island, Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland. The fonds includes originals of Gert's student papers on the Exploits families. The fonds contains cemetery inscriptions, photographs, correspondence and a file containing information on the Crosbie family. Material previously donated by Crosbie (MF-007) has been refiled in this fonds.

The fonds consists of the papers of William Gilbert Gosling and research notes and drafts of his book Humphrey Gilbert, correspondence, one photograph album, one postcard album and several loose photographs that belonged to Armine Nutting Gosling and Ambrose Gosling, typed speeches and talk about Bermuda read by A.G. Gosling over the radio (1957); Ambrose Gosling's photograph album (including photographs of central Balkans, WWI, 1914-17), photographs of Salonika and photographs documenting the aftermath of major fire; Ambrose Gosling's postcard album (featuring Salonika and other sites), cast photo of "The New Boy", featuring Armine Nutting Gosling; photograph Newfoundland Lawn Tennis Club.

Collection consists of 62 photographs of the Grand Falls and Botwood area, Newfoundland, ca. 1907-28. Images include the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company (AND) facilities, logging operations, the pulp and paper making process and community events in the area, as well as shipping activities at Botwood.

The collection contains 204 copies of original photographs gathered by the Haystack Reunion Committee for inclusion in its commemorative booklet, Haystack Reflections, published in 1997. The images include schools, churches, business premises, work and social activities, special events, Haystack residents, and the changing landscape of the community in the first half of the 20th century. All have been identified and described on MHA photographic database.
