This fonds contains the records of A.H. Murray & Company (St. Anthony) Limited, 1934-1969, a subsidiary company which was established to expand Murray's influence in the fishery on the Northern Peninsula and Labrador. It includes correspondence with suppliers 1951-64, journals 1939-57, ledgers 1934-54, profit and loss statements 1935-55, cash books 1936-55, stock books 1934-59, salt reports 1935-59, operating accounts 1935-49, insurance policies 1952-61, Workmen's Compensation Board records 1951-59, employee income tax returns 1949-52, payroll ledger 1949-58, trawler accounts with Furness Withy and Harvey & Company Limited 1957-59, CN bills of lading 1957-60, and diary extracts, 1937.

The fonds is arranged in seven series: Correspondence, 1935-1964; Financial records, 1934-1964; Insurance records, 1952-1961; Labour records, 1935-1959; Legal records, 1934-1969; Shipping records, 1957-1959; Miscellaneous records, 1936-1960.

The collection contains a photographic account of the seal hunt from the SS Terra Nova and the SS Algerine. The photographer was Wilson Pynn and the photographs were printed by Newfoundland Department Mines and Resources (PF-104).

The collection also consists of photographs taken on the last annual seal hunt conducted in 1981, when Slade, as Deputy Minister of Fisheries, went to the hunt in the Lady Johnson II with Captain Morrissey Johnson. The collection includes photographs of Hon. Jim Morgan, then Provincial Minister of Fisheries (PF-301).

Fonds consists of a list of prices charged by the company for specific items, showing cash or "on account" charges, 1859-72. Separate lists exist for summer, fall, and winter prices. Fonds also documents price-fixing between Brooking & Co. and Grieve & Bremner in the 1860s.

Fonds consists of 235 black and white photographs and negatives, mainly of vessels constructed at the Clarenville Shipyard during the period that Basil Fearn was manager of the yard, commencing in 1947. The majority of the photographs are identified. At least 50 percent of the images show vessels under construction at the yard. Some of the images were printed from negatives in 1997.

Vessels include the Matthew, the Terra Nova, the Newfoundland, the Marilyn Marie, the Richard, the Northern Wave, the George Kentner, the Philip E. Lake, the Penny Luck, the Shirley Blanche, the Algerine, the Hermitage, the Random Sound, the East Wind and the Right Wind, built for Job Brothers.

Item consists of photocopied extracts from a letter book (1902) with correspondence concerning the development of a shipbuilding policy in Canada.

Collection contains photographs related to the business and family interests of Alberto Wareham Limited, Newfoundland. Subjects include the Alberto Wareham Limited premises and vessels in Spencer's Cove, Placentia Bay; vessels owned by Alberto Wareham Limited in Harbour Buffett, Placentia Bay; the vessels Alberto Wareham and Herbert L. Rawding; a house being towed across Placentia Bay; and Elsie Wareham, Alberto's Wareham's sister.

Some photographers, including John Butt and Bill Davies, are identified. Other photographers are unknown.

Fonds consists of manuscripts and published data relating to the Newfoundland fisheries, including FAO publications, confidential reports, Newfoundland fishery statistics for 1950-1954 by community, a memorandum for vocational education for fishers, and an article on the twelve-mile limit for territorial waters.

Fonds consists of a letter book containing outgoing correspondence, business transactions, and personal letters for the firm at Placentia, Newfoundland, 1788-1804.

Collection consists of photographs related to the Fishermen's Protective Union (FPU). Included are a portrait of J. H. Scammell, (1894-1940) politician and President of the FPU, photographed by S. H. Parsons & Sons, St. John's and a group photograph by Holloway of the members of the FPU, identified, who were elected as members of the Newfoundland House of Assembly in 1919.
