Fonds consists of photographs of wrecked ships, taken by marine historian Eric Lawson.

Subjects include the following: The main beam of the wrecked bark Vicar of Bray, built at Whitehaven (1841) with tonnage (285) carved as required by law, resting at Goose Green, Falkland Islands; the wreck of the Garland; the wreck of the Protector, with a condition report (1994); the wreck of the Craigie Lee, (ON 50251), wrecked 26 Dec.1879; a vessel struck a reef off Bull Point, East Falkland on a voyage to the UK with a load of guano; and the vessel Beechbank.

Gert Crosbie fonds

Fonds consists of family history material collected and used by Gert Crosbie while working on the history of her husband's family, the Manuel family of Exploits and Burnt Island, Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland. The fonds includes originals of Gert's student papers on the Exploits families. The fonds contains cemetery inscriptions, photographs, correspondence and a file containing information on the Crosbie family. Material previously donated by Crosbie (MF-007) has been refiled in this fonds.

The Maritime History Archive collection of student papers contains 5429 essays relevant to the history and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador, collected by professors in the departments of Anthropology, Geography, and History. Most of the papers contain original research on Newfoundland communities and regions, but other categories of research include biographies and family histories, settlement patterns, economic development, education, health, law and justice, merchants, the military, politics and government, religion, shipping, fisheries and the fishing industry, and Labrador society and culture. Research papers may include photographs, oral histories, and diagrams.

This series consists mainly of research material collected for Matthews' thesis on the Newfoundland/West of England fishery, and is made up notes, extracts and transcripts from a wide variety of sources relating to Newfoundland, its trade and settlement in the 16th - 19th centuries. Records are arranged in sub-series relating to subject or source of information.

Reuben Carpenter fonds

Fonds consists of 31 photocopied blueprints of vessel plans and designs, drawn by Reuben Carpenter between 1964 and 1987. The plans were drawn for the Clarenville Shipyard and for Carpenter's Shipyard at Port Union. The fonds includes line drawings, profile plans and construction plans. File 13 and 14 are plans for a passenger freighter. All other plans are for fishing vessels.

The collection contains a photographic account of the seal hunt from the SS Terra Nova and the SS Algerine. The photographer was Wilson Pynn and the photographs were printed by Newfoundland Department Mines and Resources (PF-104).

The collection also consists of photographs taken on the last annual seal hunt conducted in 1981, when Slade, as Deputy Minister of Fisheries, went to the hunt in the Lady Johnson II with Captain Morrissey Johnson. The collection includes photographs of Hon. Jim Morgan, then Provincial Minister of Fisheries (PF-301).

Fonds includes documents and photographs relating to the SS Bonde, her owners and crew. Photographs were taken while the ship was chartered to the Botwood, Newfoundland, paper trade. The fonds includes three photographs: the SS Bonde; the crew of the Bonde; and Captain C.A. Hansen, his wife and daughter (1948).

The fonds consists of the corporate records of NAFEL, 1947-1970. The records include administrative records, correspondence and financial records. Included in the administrative records are circulars to members; market reports; and publications and correspondence of associated companies and organizations, including the Government of Canada, the Fisheries Council of Canada, the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, the International Commission on Northwest Atlantic Fisheries, the Newfoundland Fish Trades Association, the Newfoundland Fisheries Board, the Newfoundland Fisheries Development Committee, North Atlantic Shipping Ltd., Puerto Rico Exporters Ltd., and the Brazil Exporters Ltd. The accounts and ledger system provides a complete record of all financial and production records of NAFEL members.
