Fonds consists of a list of prices charged by the company for specific items, showing cash or "on account" charges, 1859-72. Separate lists exist for summer, fall, and winter prices. Fonds also documents price-fixing between Brooking & Co. and Grieve & Bremner in the 1860s.

The microfilmed ledger is volume 1 of the Derby family papers, an extensive collection of business records and family materials belonging to the James Duncan Phillips Library, Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem.

The ledger records Richard Derby's debits and credits with other merchants, as well as with mariners, fishermen, shoremen, artisans, farmers, and widows from Salem and surrounding towns for the years 1757-76 and 1786-90. There is also a copy of Derby's will, dated 1783.

Fonds consists of correspondence and shipping papers for the company operations, 1879 -1933. Material of particular interest is the correspondence and accounts of C. T. Bennett of Bristol, which illustrates the complexities of the marketing structure and the economic factors which affected the salt fish industry as well as providing insight into the day-to-day operations of the business. The fonds also includes vessel expenditures and charter parties. The architect's specifications for the building of the Stonehouse on Water Street, Carbonear, are contained in the correspondence for 1907.
