Founders’ Archive Oral History Project fonds

This oral history project resulted from a Young Canada Works Grant in Heritage Institutions awarded to the Faculty of Medicine Founders’ Archive. Two students were hired to arrange, conduct and transcribe interviews with individuals who were involved in the early days of the Medical School at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. The project lasted for 11 weeks with 11 interviews conducted and transcribed and placed in the holdings of the Founders’ Archive. The archive, in the spirit of this project, has conducted further interviews in 2002 and 2003.

Fonds is composed of 15 interviews and 20 audiocassettes containing these interviews. The collection consists of the following interviews:

The fonds consists of textual records, scrapbooks, photographs, audio visual materials, ephemera, memorabilia, plaques, trophies and badges related to the administrative and operational history of the Girl Guides of Canada, Newfoundland Council from 1923 to 2003. The fonds is composed of 24 series arranged to reflect the organization and activities of the association.

Series consists of correspondence and subject files pertaining to the general administration of the
Department of Administrative Services and City Clerk. Files pertain to all manner of municipal affairs including construction of roads and sewer lines, subdivision development and infrastructural changes to urban planning, labour relations, neighbourhood improvement programs, civic monuments and other related files. The series also contains committee reports.

The majority of the records in this series were destroyed in the early 1980's before the establishment of the City Archives.

Collection /1 Collection consists of two copies of a paper entitled "The CBC Northern Service Radio station CFGB Happy Valley, Labrador" written by Gordie Rendell about the history of radio in Happy Valley, Labrador from 1941-1967 (1967); radio script entitled "Programme on Formal Handover of Radio Station CFGB by the RCAF to the CBC February 23, 1959"; a transcript of a discussion concerning the evolution of Labrador communication, Nethercut & Co. Ltd. Toronto (1979).
