Fonds consists of the personal and professional records created by Francis O’Dea during his work in the medical profession and his involvement with a variety of individuals and organizations in Newfoundland. The fonds contains patient records, patient accounts and appointments, and receipt books from 1949-1977. There is also a small amount of correspondence relating to Medicare and the Newfoundland Medical Association. The fonds is arranged in the following series:

The collection includes Newfoundland Medical Board Directories (1915-2006) and Registers of licenses issued by the Newfoundland Medical Board (1894-1982). Newfoundland Medical Board Directories are an annual publication providing a complete list of medical practitioners resident in Newfoundland who are registered and licensed. Their professional address, and the date and location of their alma mater are given. The registers of licenses issued to medical practitioners usually indicate the doctor’s name, the date they were given the license, their address, the license number, and their alma mater. A menu from the Newfoundland Medical Association’s annual dinner (1955) is also in the collection.
Newfoundland Medical BoardFonds contains past papers of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for various subjects including anaesthesia, anatomical pathology, cardiology, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, clinical immunology, dermatology, etc. Not all dates are available for each paper, either because they were not distributed by the RCPSC or because the library did not retain a copy. Minutes are boxed in chronological order. Sub-series 2 consists of executive minutes of the Conference. Sub-series 3 consists of reports, correspondence and other miscellaneous records of Conference.
Series consists of records of the Districts of the Newfoundland Conference of the Methodist Church of Canada. It includes minutes for Districts of St. John's, Carbonear, Bonavista, Burin and Grand Falls; journals for Bonavista, Burin and Grand Falls; financial secretary's books for Bonavista and Burin; Spiritual State reports and Sunday School reports. No records for Twillingate and Wesleyville Districts are held by the Conference Archives.
