Conference minutes, correspondence and reports

Series consists of three sub-series. Sub-series 1 consists of the official minutes of the Newfoundland Conference of the United Church of Canada. Minutes are boxed in chronological order. Sub-series 2 consists of executive minutes of the Conference. Sub-series 3 consists of reports, correspondence and other miscellaneous records of Conference.


Series consists of records of the Districts of the Newfoundland Conference of the Methodist Church of Canada. It includes minutes for Districts of St. John's, Carbonear, Bonavista, Burin and Grand Falls; journals for Bonavista, Burin and Grand Falls; financial secretary's books for Bonavista and Burin; Spiritual State reports and Sunday School reports. No records for Twillingate and Wesleyville Districts are held by the Conference Archives.

Series consist of registers of vital statistics of the Glovertown Pastoral Charge which includes the following communities: Glovertown, Glovertown South, Happy Adventure and Traytown.

Series is arranged as follows: Baptism Register,1907-1941; Baptism Register,1944-1988; Deer Island Marriage Register, 1907-1941; 1944-1958; 1959-1983; Burial Register, 1944-1988.

Series consists of 12 parish registers including baptisms: transcribed 1916 (1817-1849), 1890-1912, 1912-1957, marriages, transcribed 1916 (1817-1849), 1850-1890, 1890-1907, 1907-1926, 1926-1940, 1942-1961; burials, transcribed 1914 (1817-1953), 1853-1891, 1891-1917.

Earliest registers of births, burials and marriages are transcriptions copied in 1916 from original records by Rev. Charles Lench. An affidavit (written in the registers) swears as to the documents being a true copy. The location of the originals is unknown.

Series consists of vital statistics records for congregations in Bay of Islands including Curling, Lark Harbour, Summerside, Wood's Island, Humbermouth, and Corner Brook. The volumes are listed as follows: baptisms, 1902-1936, 1936-1992; marriages, 1902-1927, 1928-1939, 1939-1949, 1949-1963, 1963-1980; and burials, 1902-1987.

Series consists of vital statistics registers which include baptisms, marriages and burials. The earliest registers (1874-1880) contain entries for Bay of Islands as well as Bonne Bay. Records are listed as follows: baptisms, 1874-1936, 1936-1986; marriages, 1874-1935, 1935-1952, 1952-1954, 1954-1980; and burials, 1874-1978.

Series consists of vital statistics registers created by the Fortune Bay Congregationalist Mission.

Files 1-5 contain Congregational records 1875-1899 received from the Pool's Cove Pastoral Charge in 1967. Files 6 and 7 contain the two remaining volumes of vital statistics from the Fortune Bay Mission. Records are listed as follows.

File 1 Congregational Baptismal, marriages and burial register, The Fortune Bay Mission, 1875 -1899. The register is divided into three parts. Part one includes: baptisms under headings Bay du Nord Congregational Church and Pool's Cove Congregational Church. Included are baptisms from Port Elizabeth (Flat Islands) in Placentia Bay to Bay du Nord area in Fortune Bay, 1875-1897. Part 2 contains Pool's Cove Congregational Church, register of burials, 1870-1899. Part 3 contains baptismal register of the Pool's Cove Congregational Church, 1897-1899.

File 7 Churches at Little Bay East, Anderson's Cove, and Conne. Baptisms, marriages, and burials, 1915-1941. Ministers who served are listed, 1915-1969. Also includes church financial accounts, 1915, 1921-1923.
