The diaries provide an account of the business as well as providing detail on the social life of the town. The fonds also includes account books, ledgers and fish collection books, which give insight into the various aspects of Slade's mercantile operation, and the independent fishermen with whom he did business. Letterbooks and correspondence, 1809-1855 provide details of the management of the business.
