        History

Lt. Grover C. Hodge (1921-1943) was a serviceman in the United States Army. In December of 1942, a Martin B-26 "Marauder" Medium Bomber of the 440 Sqn, 319 Bomb Group with a crew of 7 left Narsarsuaq Greenland (code name Bluie West One) heading back to the United States, with an intended stop-over at Goose Bay, Labrador. Lt. Hodge, the pilot, was forced to crash land at the head of the Saglek Bay, Labrador. The aircraft sustained damages and the crew survived the impact. Lt. Hodge kept a diary from October 1942 until February 1943 which includes accounts of their efforts to survive. The original transcript of his diary was included in the formal report filed by the USAF team that recovered the remains of the crew in April 1943.
