Gordon MorrisCollection consists of a bookklet entitled " It's the Goose" (1958), a newsletter about CBC Northern and Armed forces (1996); a request for a radio show to Gordie Rendell from Jessie Williams (1976); an article taken from the LABRADORIAN entitled " Rendell retires after 30 years with CBC" written by Bert Pomeroy (1991); and information taken from CBC regarding the Naming of Happy Valley Contest.
Gorden RendellThe collection contains a photographic account of the seal hunt from the SS Terra Nova and the SS Algerine. The photographer was Wilson Pynn and the photographs were printed by Newfoundland Department Mines and Resources (PF-104).
The collection also consists of photographs taken on the last annual seal hunt conducted in 1981, when Slade, as Deputy Minister of Fisheries, went to the hunt in the Lady Johnson II with Captain Morrissey Johnson. The collection includes photographs of Hon. Jim Morgan, then Provincial Minister of Fisheries (PF-301).
Slade, Gordon C.The fonds consist of Gordon Myles' family and community research files. It includes an exhaustive collection of genealogical material as well as some completed family histories and a history of the community of Grand Bruit on the south coast of Newfoundland. The main families included in Myles study are the Billards, Kinslows, Myles/Miles, MacDonald /McDonalds and Melbournes. The research material consists of photocopies from parish records, cemetery inscriptions, census, land grants, newspapers, directories, yearbooks and published material. Myles' research notes are meticulously compiled and organized, and include questionnaires, pedigree charts, data sheets containing vital statistics and draft monographs.
All the material was collected or created between 1984 and 1996. In the case of photocopies and transcripts, the dates of the original material are included in the file level description.
The fonds has been organized into seven series and sub-series to clarify the original order. Order within the files has been maintained. Series are: 1. Correspondence. 2. Family history. 3. Community history, Grand Bruit. 4. Vital statistics. 5. Family records (genealogies). 6. Name files. 7. Research material.
