    History

Records of the activities of the Anglican Church in Newfoundland date from the early eighteenth century. In 1976, the Synod of Newfoundland decided to divide the single Diocese of Newfoundland into three separate dioceses (Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador, Central Newfoundland and Western Newfoundland), each with its own synod. Each diocesan synod maintains an archives where synod, diocesan, and parish records are kept. In most cases, the records pertaining to a particular diocese have been transferred to the Archives for that diocese. However, some records still remain with the Archives for the Eastern Diocese. The Archives for the Central Diocese was established during the May 1989 Synod of the Central Diocese.
