Biographical history

Flora (Blake) Baikie (1890-1988) was born in Mulligan, Labrador, to Sarah Jane and Thomas Blake. Flora Baikie’s mother died when she was 2 years old, and her grandmother, Lydia Campbell raised her, until her father married Mary Goudie. Flora married Freeman Baikie on August 4, 1910, and had 10 children.

Collection consists of correspondence to William Baikie from Thomas Baikie, August 20, 1908; correspondence to Doris Saunders from Flora Baikie, Nov. 3, 1977; handwritten notes by Flora Baikie detailing deaths, monetary matters and occurrences; a Christmas card from Mr. And Mrs. Freeman Baikie; correspondence to Flora Baikie from May Bird (1943); copy of Hudson’s Bay company ledger sheet for the account of Freeman Baikie (1942); a License to Operate a Receiving Equipment issued to Mr. Freeman Baikie (1943); a receipt from The International Grenfell Association for the sum of $3.70 paid for hospital fees (1941); 3 credit receipts from the Hudson’s Bay Company (1946); correspondence to Freeman Baikie from S/SGT J. Payette; 3 letters of correspondence to Flora Baikie from Ella Campbell (1943), a certificate of registration for the Defense (National Registration) Regulations (1942); correspondence to Flora Baikie from ? Budgell (1946); and correspondence to Flora Baikie from D. Blake (1955).
