Biographical history

Millicent (Blake) Loder (1915-) was educated in the schools of the Grenfell Mission in Labrador and St. Anthony. The mission later arranged for her to complete her education and nurse's training in the United States, after which she returned to nurse at St. Anthony and Mary's Harbour. In 1949 she married Sidney Loder and moved to Hopedale, where she was a volunteer midwife and health care worker for nine years before moving to St.Johns after. After her Husbands death in 1968, Millicent Loder returned to Labrador to nurse at several nursing stations and most fequently at North West River, where she was also responsible for setting up an Infants home, she retired in 1980 Millicent Loder received an honarary degree from MUN in recognition of her service to the people of Labrador. She was awarded the Order of Canada in 1982 and published her autobiography in 1989. Millicent Loder is also the Author of "Daughter of Labrador"

Collection Consists of official transcripts of Millicent Loders Book; a poem entitled: "In support of the Innu, Inuit and Native Settlers of Labrador", a letter to Doris Saunders from Millicent Loder regarding the Authorization to use article written by Millicent Loder; and two photocopied articles regarding Millicent Loder's convocation.
