The Rooms Provincial Archives division is mandated, through the Rooms Act 2005, to preserve those records of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador which are deemed to have enduring legal, fiscal, evidential or research value. The Provincial Archives also collects records from private sources which have enduring value to the history of the province.

Hours of operation are:

June 1 to October 15

Sunday : Closed
Monday - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Evenings: Wednesdays until 9:00 p.m.

October 16 to May 31

Sunday : Closed
Monday : Closed
Tuesday - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Evenings: Wednesdays until 9:00 p.m.

Open on all statutory holidays except:

Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Remembrance Day

General admission fees do not apply to the Archives. For first time users of the Archives, there is an initial ten dollar fee to obtain a permanent Researcher Registration number.

Strollers and wheelchairs can be signed out free of charge from the Information Desk.
The Rooms has a two hour parking limit.

The Client Services Section provides assistance to researchers - both on-site at The Rooms and by distance (e-mail, phone, fax, mail). Researchers can also make appointments with archivists to explore specific research requirements and interests.

Staff is available in the Archives to discuss research topics, point out possible archival sources, give instruction in the use of finding aids, and provide information on any of the services offered.

All orders are subject to 13% HST (Harmonized Sales Tax)

.25 per 8" x 10" page
.25 per 11" x 14" page
.50 per 11" x 17" page
Labour charge:
no charge for the first thirty minutes
after the first 30 minutes - $15 per hour

Paper Prints from Microfilm:
.50 per page
Labour Charge for staff processed copies:
no charge for the first thirty minutes
after the first thirty minutes - $15 per hour

True Copy - extract of vital record or census entry - $20

Certified Copy - document certification for legal purposes - $20

Record Search - $20 for an eleven-year search Year requested plus five years either side of that date

Private Researcher List - $50 per year for listing

$10 to change any information in listing before annual renewal

Fax (Long Distance) - $1.00 per page in addition to copying charges
